In Houston’s East End, this 133-unit single room occupancy (SRO) provides security for its at-risk community with amassing sympathetic to the smaller scale context of its near-downtown site. To strengthen existing urban patterns, the buildings are placed close to the street and allows the public to enter from the non-street side through transparent layers with full view of a courtyard enclosed by a 2-story ‘cloister’ wing and a 3-story mid-rise.
